Astrology has been around in one form or another for a very long time, even before mankind's earliest written records began. Around 5000 BC there was evidence of astrology and astronomy in stone circles in Great Britain and France.
The modern astrology of today began in Mesopotamia and Sumeria, where the celestial bodies and their relationship with crop planting were observed.
The seasons were important in their influence to bring about the best harvest, and the sun was worshipped for its effects on the land and crops. The phases of the moon were predicted to bring pattern and regularity, and a measure of time.
Early predictions were of natural disasters and war, and later individual horoscopes were cast for the leaders of countries.
Some of these exist today. Astrology then spread towards India and China and Egypt and Greece. Simultaneously, the early Europeans and the people of the Americas were developing their own forms of Astrology and Astronomy, particularly the Mayans of Mexico.
However, the Greeks attributed their gods and goddesses to the planets and then the Romans accepted that astrology was a form of divination, and introduced the names we are familiar with today.
This work is said to be the fountain head of Vedic astrology. It is the bible of this ancient subject and is an indispensable study for both student and practitioner. It would take a lifetime of dedication to master the astrological rules outlined in this great work, and indeed, it is doubtful if one would ever master it, for the true mastery of astrology can only be accomplished by one who has transcended the three gunas, the ego, and the limitation of human thought processes. The entire subject of astrology is a description of our karmic destiny and the vicissitudes of our temporal existence in this world. If we are not firmly anchored in the stability of divine truth, then we are subject to the fluctuations and fickleness of our own minds.
Astrological principles tell us that our moment of birth defines our temporal experience in this world according to the temporal disposition of the planets at birth. The planets operate as guiding impulses from the archetypal world of the Self and they represent our samskars, the mental impressions created from our own past actions. They indicate our talents, good fortunes, state of health and disease, as well as the traumas we are destined to experience.
The study of time is best done through Vedic astrology rather than with atomic clocks, as Vedic astrology exist since the time carbon, uranium or potassium dating was not invented.
Indian astrology is the oldest system of astrology in the world and differs considerably from the western system. Indian astrology uses the actual constellations of stars as seen in the sky. Using this system gives a completely different chart as compared to the one used by western astrologers, as the Indian astrology is based on the date, place and time of birth.
Indian astrology also differs considerably from the Chinese horoscope which is based on the year of birth and believes that the year of birth indicates a certain phase or aspect of sixty year circle of time. Therefore you may find yourself born in the year of dog, horse or rat or even a dragon. Hence people who are born in a particular animal year share certain common traits just like people born in common zodiac do.
Indian astrology is highly authentic and its predictions are believed to be the most accurate. Being based on the actual constellations of stars, this is the most widely used system of astrology across the world.
The art of Chinese Astrology is based on the Chinese lunar calendar. Unlike Western astrology, which bases its major system - the Sun signs - on a 12 month cycle, giving a different influence to each month, Chinese astrology is based on cycles of 60 years. Each year is assigned both one of the 12 animals and one of the five elements - wood, water, air, earth and metal - and so the years are more properly defined as the Year of the Water Tiger, The Year of the Earth Pig and so on - sixty in all.
The purpose of Chinese astrology is more direct - to define 'cures' for unfortunate stars by correcting imbalances in the natal chart. Thus, systems like Feng-Shui use the astrological chart as a starting point to prescribe ways to bring balance into one's life. The concept of balance and of Yin and Yang is one that is vital to every aspect of Chinese astrology. Each animal, each element and each year is either Yin (soft) or Yang (hard).
Nadi astrology
Predictions on the basis of sun signs means predicting same for 50 crores people of different age, cast, creed & religion. Nadi Astrology is believed to be practiced by Sage Agastya and Sage Bhrigu in ancient times. In addition to Signs, Houses and Planets, Nakshatra ; the Sub Lord , Cusp of Houses and combination of houses are used for most precise predictions. Vimshottari Dasha and Transits are used for timing the events.
According to the principles of Nadi Astrology the Zodiac is divided into 12 equal sub divisions of Signs with equal subdivisions of the 27 Nakshatra. These Nakshatra are further subdivided into unequal "Sub lords". Nadi Astrology lays greater emphasis on the sub lord which is stronger than the Nakshatra & in the same sequence the Nakshatra is stronger than the Planet.
Experience shows that the system of study of Astrology through the Sign, Nakshatra & Sub lord gives most accurate results because in this system we judge every planet on THREE platforms. In this system we cast the horoscope of the native by taking date, time & place of birth and draw the Lagan chart & Nirayana Bhava Chalit chart. For predicting any event but combination of Houses is taken into consideration not like in other system of astrology where a single House is taken for giving predictions.
